Yes, the pumpkin season had begun again!
The pumpkin season at Greenflor has officially started! Starting today, you'll find a stunning selection of pumpkins in every possible color, shape, and size. Whether you're looking for mini, majestic, round, long, striped, bumpy, or smooth pumpkins, we have them all. And the best part? They all come from Dutch soil.
The growth of Dutch pumpkins
In februari en maart plant de kweker de zaadjes in de grond. Binnen enkele maanden komt er een plant tevoorschijn die in juli boven de aarde uitgroeit. Deze plant woekert over het hele land en produceert zowel mannelijke als vrouwelijke bloemen. Pas wanneer bijen de vrouwelijke bloemen bevruchten, beginnen de pompoenen te groeien. Het behoud van bijen is dus cruciaal voor de oogst. Zonder bijen zouden er geen pompoenen zijn.
Tussen eind augustus en eind oktober zijn de pompoenen klaar voor de oogst, precies op tijd voor Halloween. De arbeiders trekken met grote kisten het land op om het rijpe fruit te plukken, dat vanaf de tweede week van oktober verkrijgbaar is in de Greenflor webshop.
The growth of Dutch pumpkins
In February and March, the grower plants the seeds in the ground. Within a few months, a plant emerges and by July it starts to grow above the soil. This plant spreads across the land, producing both male and female flowers. Pumpkins only begin to grow once bees pollinate the female flowers. Therefore, preserving bees is crucial for the harvest. Without bees, there would be no pumpkins.
Between late August and late October, the pumpkins are ready for harvest, just in time for Halloween. Workers head into the fields with large crates to pick the ripe fruit, which becomes available in the Greenflor webshop from the second week of October.
Early in the season
This year, Greenflor can offer pumpkins early in the season, allowing you to enjoy these beautiful autumn decorations for even longer. While Greenflor has primarily selected white Babyboo pumpkins and orange Jacky Be Little pumpkins in recent years, we are expanding our collection with even more varieties this year.
